Self-motivation (fixed signs) in a relationship

Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius: the person who holds their course. How it plays out in a couple and who it fits.

The person seeks to preserve their individuality. Instead of falling in line right away with the leader, they keep their own way of feeling and acting, which others sometimes find hard to know.

Taking part does not mean they give up their own judgment. They can be inside the group and, at the same time, keep considerable independence from its decisions.

Most points in self-motivation signs

Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius make up this group. The person usually has a definite idea of how things should be done and trusts their own judgment.

They may listen to suggestions with little interest, convinced they already know the right way to proceed. When that certainty becomes rigid, they may dismiss proposals without examining them or feel that discussing them is a waste of time.

Pressure may make them give in for a moment without changing their conviction. Then they will wait for another chance to act again in the way they consider right: their obedience will have been obtained, but not their agreement.

They relate to the group because they have clear interests and know that collaboration can help them move forward. If they don’t find support, they are usually willing to carry on alone for as long as they need.

When several people in a family show this tendency, the difficulty in giving way can lead to deadlocks and tension. One possibility is to agree on areas of responsibility and give each person a certain margin of autonomy for their goals. Otherwise, much of the energy may be used up in disputes over how to do each thing.

When one sign predominates

If self-motivation concentrates in Taurus

Tenacity is at the center of the way they take part. They hold a firm position and like to manage their resources according to defined goals.

Their perseverance helps them finish what they start. That same firmness can turn into stubbornness: pressing hard to persuade Taurus usually achieves little.

If self-motivation concentrates in Leo

They become involved in the group when they can influence its organization, its hierarchies and its ways of granting recognition or sanctions. They like to mark out territories and exercise authority within them.

If they feel they cannot hold that position, they may distance themselves from part of the group or look for another one that recognizes their authority. In its most rigid expression, that need for control can look like that of a little emperor.

If self-motivation concentrates in Scorpio

They relate with great intensity. The pressure of time or of difficulties can heighten their ability to respond and their passion.

They observe the members of the group and try to learn their deepest desires. They may use that understanding to offer what the others need and keep each of them bound to their will. When they no longer find affinity, their decisions can be clear-cut and final.

In the midst of that enthusiasm, what they are experiencing takes up so much of their attention that they may lose track of schedules and the time available.

If self-motivation concentrates in Aquarius

They may try to impose their point of view by showing that other people’s proposals lack grounds or sense. They place great value on their knowledge and their mental clarity.

When that self-regard becomes excessive, their gestures may convey superiority or condescension toward those they consider less informed. Even so, they also need the group: when they discover something, they want to share it and receive recognition and validation.

As a couple

When self-motivation is the predominant mode for both

Living together can be difficult if each is convinced that their own way of thinking and acting is the right one. That rigidity may weigh more heavily if adaptability doesn’t hold an important place in their scores either.

When there are other points of compatibility, recognizing this dynamic helps make the most of them. Before rejecting a proposal by reflex, they will need to listen to it and give themselves time to consider it.

Leadership and self-motivation

If there are other strong points of compatibility, this relationship can find a way forward when the one with more initiative knows how to present proposals in which both can see a benefit. Pressuring the other person to change right away tends to increase resistance.

Allowing time to reflect and explaining what can be gained from an agreement makes it easier to meet. If every proposal turns into a battle of wills, everyday arguments can wear down even other favorable aspects of the relationship.

Self-motivation and adaptability

This combination can work well when changes of plan don’t come abruptly. In everyday life, the adaptable person usually adjusts to their partner’s way of doing things without necessarily feeling thwarted.

The difficulty arises when circumstances or the influence of other people lead them to change an earlier agreement. The partner with a firmer orientation may freeze up or resist that sudden change.

If the adaptable person wants to make a change, it will help them to present it calmly and allow time to consider it. The phrase “take your time to think about it” expresses that attitude better than a demand for an immediate answer.
